What a weekend!!

After spending a relaxing weekend at Smith Lake, Mrs. Blevins came home to a mess! Lightning hit our house Sunday during the storms! We lost our tv, satellite, Internet, alarm, and garage door opener. So I can't upload last weeks pics because I am having to use my iPad. AT&T is supposed to come tomorrow, hopefully I'll be back online tomorrow night. Here's a pic of where it hit on our house!! See everyone tomorrow!

Wrapping Up the First Week of School

During our reading time this week we talked about a few strategies that we use when reading. We also talked about one of our Daily 5 centers, Read to Self.  We made this list of what the students are supposed to do and what the teacher does while we read to ourselves.

We also started using our new math textbook. We started Chapter 3: Basic Facts and Relationships and will be working hard on our addition and subtraction facts for the next few weeks.  You can see that these boys and girls were working hard on their workbook pages.

The students also got to play math games when they finished their work. Here they are playing the Caterpillar game.

We had a fantastic first week of school!!

The First Day of School

We have had a great first two days of school! Yesterday the kids filled out a sheet that told me all about them. I hung them in the hallway.

We also practiced doing our Daily Practice Math and Reading. This will be our morning work every day.

 We read the story "Chrysanthemum", after we read the story I gave the kids cubes and dot stickers and had them build their names and see who had the longest name in the class.

We then divided up into two teams, girls vs. boys to see which group had the longest name if we combined all the cubes.

The girls had more letters in their names!

Next, we wrote in our journals about our summer vacations. I loved hearing about everyone's summer fun!

Monday is the First Day of School!!

Almost that time!!

Summer is winding down. Don't forget K-2 Teacher Meet and Greet is Tuesday August 14th from 7:45-10am. The first day of school is Monday August 20th!! See you soon!!

In the News...

Mark McCarter from the Huntsville Times visited with us on Monday afternoon. He wanted to see how we are learning about Black History Month for an article he is doing on Black History Month, if you check out the front page of the Huntsville Times this morning you will see it!

We were able to do the lesson using the writing centers we received before Christmas thanks to our Donors Choose project getting funded, just so happens that Mark was one of our donors!

Owl Pellets

Last Tuesday, we dissected Owl Pellets. The kids were very excited to open them up and see what was inside!!
